The verdict on Posh’s transfer business so far

With the transfer window in full swing and the Posh squad back on the pitch playing pre-season games in Spain, now feels like an apt moment to reflect on our business so far.
I have given my first impressions of each of the five signings to date and highlighted which positions I think still need to be filled.
Evan Weir – A solid option
Weir has been signed to jazz up the backline slightly, bringing depth as a player whose skills are mainly with the ball at his feet.
When we are chasing a game or need a bit of extra quality to try and break down a backline, the ‘wand’ that is Weir’s left foot could come in handy.
With a strong friendship already established with David Okagbue, Weir will hopefully also improve the group dynamic.
Playing at both left-back and left-sided centre-half, Weir provides Luke Williams with tactical flexibility to switch from a three to a four within a game, without making wholesale personnel changes.
On a free transfer, I see this as smart business.
My grade
Harrison Jones – Potential to be special?
Jones was a player I knew nothing about going into the transfer window; however, reading what Sunderland players and fans have said about him has been really enjoyable.
Another free transfer, Jones will have had suitors across the EFL, so it is great that Posh have secured his services.
The young midfielder will bring energy, doggedness, but also quality to the centre of the pitch, as someone who just loves to have the ball at his feet.
He comes with the big green tick of having a fantastic attitude too; his behaviour at the fan zone funday, going around and speaking to loads of fans, was exceptional. Overall, I am excited by this signing.
My grade
Collin Andeng Ndi – Great depth signing
Collin is not the standout signing of this summer; however, I think this is secretly very good business from a Posh perspective.
We already have Alex Bass, who is an excellent first choice, and now we have somebody to potentially take his spot after he is done.
Collin was immense for Southend last season in the National League, and with many years ahead of him, I think he will be a very good backup.
Overall, we can’t really ask for more than this in a backup goalkeeper signing.
My grade
Owura Edwards – A signing that took me by surprise.
I was confused when Posh announced the signing of Owura Edwards. With only one goal last season in League Two, he didn’t seem like the kind of player we would be interested in at all.
The fact he wasn’t starting at Colchester United in the league below Posh was a huge concern.
After reading up about Edwards, I am slightly less sceptical of the signing, as it is clear he has had interest from top League One clubs in recent times; however, big question marks remain about whether he has the quality to step up.
With raw pace that could be frightening for defenders in League One, I hope Edwards can make a real impact next season.

Tom O’Connor – The signing of the summer so far
I was delighted to see the re-signing of TOC on a permanent basis.
I don’t need to tell Posh fans about his solidity at the back or division-leading distribution; they saw plenty of that in the first half of last season.
My only concern with this signing is whether we can keep Tom fit, but if we can, with our new medical staff in place, we easily have a top-six centre-back in the building.
This was a big one to get over the line, as I am sure TOC had interest from elsewhere. I am delighted we have won the race here.

What is left?
Posh needs at least four more signings in my book. A starting right back is needed, as well as an Archie Collins replacement in the six position.
The right winger has to be our marquee signing of the window, rounding out a very strong League One front three. We also need a backup to Harry Leonard, should he get injured, and also as an option to switch to a front two from time to time.
For comfort, I would also love another centre-back and a number ten to fill the slot until Garbett comes back. The latter may be slightly greedy, though.
